Visit to Proton- Assignment no 2

So you think you are going to have a nice time enjoying yourself doing nothing during the Proton visit?

Well think again. I am giving an assignment for you to prepare and submit by 20th of October (the next week).

Group Assignment No 2   (5 %)    5 Learning points we learnt from the Proton Visit

Prepare a short report of  your visit to Proton. Document some of the main things you learnt from the trip which helps you in further understanding the concepts, techniques and implementation of Lean Manufacturing.

You don’t have to address every issue. Just discuss 5 major learning points. Prepare a report of not more than 2000 words.

During the visit each person must bring  a note book and note some relevant points during the visit. After the visit, call a meeting of your group, put together all the points on a white board, brainstorm and  make sure all the points are shared by your group. Then collectively  decide on 5 major learning points to be highlighted in your report.  Discuss how you want to address them. I have put below some examples of perspectives you may want to address but this is not exhaustive. You may wish to add your own. Some points to consider discussing about your visit as belows:

1.     What manufacturing processes are involved?

2.     To what extent is lean manufacturing understood and practiced?

3.     What lean manufacturing techniques are employed?

4.     Training of staff in lean manufacturing?

5.     To what extent has the benefits of lean manufacturing been realised?

6.     Do they have a department or PIC to look into Lean Manufacturing? How many people involved?

7.     Do shopfloor staff understand and support Lean Manufacturing philosophy?

8.     Is it incorporated in their corporate strategy?

9.     Do they involve their vendors in their initiatives?

10.  How do they measure success in implementation (performance measures)?

11.  What are barriers to successful implementation?

12.   Any examples or specific success stories?

13.Any current problems you observed existing in proton which require Lean Manufacturing techniques?
