HINTS FOR THE FINAL EXAM PAPER ON LEAN MANUFACTURING

Salam and Regards

OK so you want to know what I will ask in the final paper? I will give you some hints.

There will be 6 (six) questions. You have to answer only three. Peanuts right?
There is two parts; Part I and Part II.
Part I consists of 5 questions and is basically mugging stuff. Answer only two questions. You will be given mainly subjective questions and be expected to recall, explain, relate some basic concepts of lean manufacturing. That is 50 % of the marks. Any student can pass this. If you fail this section, go jump in the sea. You either have been missing classes, sleeping or not paying attention in class ( I know some of you dont pay enough attention).

PART II is calculation part and is another 50%. This is compulsory (So some of you are shaking in your boots right?)
What i can promise you is that I will not ask you anything i havent not taught or shown in some of the examples I set in class. The past year questions which I have given for reference are twice as hard as what I am asking. If you follow the examples i set in class and read the questions carefully etc, you will find the question ridiculously easy which is  what i intend for students who follow what i teach in class. You deserve to score as you understand the basic principles and able to apply in a psuedo-real environment.

Lean manufacturing is not difficult and I tried to teach it in a not too difficult way so that students of different work experience and background can follow. Read up all the notes i provided and remember some of the points I taught in class.  If you remember the experiences you picked up during the Proton visit, you should be okay.

So enuff said and dont bother to email me for more detailed tips because thats all you gonna get.
Good Luck and God Bless

Good Visit to Proton

Salam and morning to all students

First of all  I want to congratulate all of you on the Proton Visit. You all behaved very well. Some came in ties and black shoes. Wow! You looked like potential partners of Proton from IRAN.The Proton people were very impressed with you lot. I hope you learnt a lot about assembly line operations, takt time, line efficiency and practice of 5 S. The kanban simulation line was very good. I don't need to teach it to you as all of you must understand the concept by heart now.

Some photos just in from Proton

I like the briefing session where the factory manager mentioned that in Lean Mfg we dont hide problems. We reveal them and then solve them. Remember that line. I did not know how the visit to Putrajaya went but I hoped it was also just as good.

So hopefully I will see you in class next week.

Salam and Best Regards

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach him to fish and he will wipe out all the fish before you realise it.
Practice "Catch and Release" so that the fish has a chance to live.

VISIT TO PROTON

Assalamualaikum and a very good day to students
The visit to Proton is on as planned i.e 20th October 2010.
I have been reminded by the Proton PRO people to inform ALL Students to bring their MATRIC CARDS.

1) No matric cards means you get to stay on the bus whilst others get to  tour the plant.

2) The trip from JB to Shah Alam is a long one. So SLEEP EARLY and wake up EARLY and PLEASE make sure you are ON TIME so that the bus can leave as planned. Dont wait for late comers and leave them behind so as not to jeapordise the whole trip for others.  The bus will make a stop mid way so you can have breakfast on the go. Else bring your food and drinks along.

3) LADIES - please no short pants- make sure you are dressed decently. That goes for MEN as well. You are not tourists but MASTERS students at UTM so no slippers, flip-flops etc wear nice decent shoes. We want to impress the people at PROTON.

4) I will inshaAllah join you there at the plant. Make sure you follow all the rules as explained by the people there.

5)  So all the best and have a save trip and make sure the bus driver does not speed or sms whilst driving.
If he insists, throw him out of the bus. I like all my students to come and go in one piece safely.

6)  No more students are allowed to come after today. I have sent the list to Proton today  so for those who only now decide to go- Sorry mate  next time for you ie never.

Thanks and wassalam
